Joomla South Africa

S3 - SpeedSiteShowdown, was attempted on the 14 August. The goal was to have a fully functional website up and running for the chosen non profit organisation. The site was completed within 5.5 hours, with a few minor tweaks that still need to be completed.

The Zakheni Arts Therapy Foundation is an established organisation working within challenging and diverse South African communities, using the Arts Therapies. Our primary objective is to provide psychological and emotional support to children, adolescents and adults through the medium of the Creative Arts Therapies.

Zakheni is a small yet dynamic NGO that has benefited in the past from funding from large donor organizations like UNICEF. Currently, however, we are seriously under-funded, possibly as a result of the economic climate. Having a website will increase our exposure to the worldwide donor community. With further funds, we will be able to increase our capacity to provide psychosocial support to vulnerable children.

Zakheni’s primary work is to build capacity within other NGOs to provide creative psychosocial support to vulnerable children. Without our own website, we have relied on database websites to house our information, which is often incorrect or insubstantially listed. With this incredibly comprehensive website of our own, we are able to ensure that NGOs in need of our services are able to find us, access all the information they need, and contact us to make use of our services.

It has been our wish for a long time to have a website. We have focused all our time and financial resources on maintaining our projects and delivering services to children. Although a small NGO, our work is creative and exciting and we are active in many communities within South Africa. We have seriously needed a dynamic website that reflects our work. It is only lack of funds that prevented us from going ahead with this. Being a beneficiary of this amazing gift of a website through Raramuridesign and Joomla could not be more timely in raising our organizational profile and therefore increasing our capacity to do our work.

We would like to thank Matthew, Dwight and Marcos at raramuridesign for the incredibly generous donation of a full day’s work to get this site up and running. After talking about getting a website for around 4 years, I can still not believe it materialized in a little over 4 hours! We are sincerely grateful for your donation. Thank you.

View the website here. (This is still on a development environment)

The organising team hopes that in the future we will have more teams available for this kind of event. It has also been suggested to bring on different teams with other skills to focus on one non profit for maximum effect... the possibilities are endless...
